In May 2025, Guoxuan High-Tech announced at the 2025 Global Technology Conference that its first all-solid-state battery experimental line had been officially completed. In addition, there are other new developments in the solid-state battery field. The Society of Automotive Engineers of China has released the "Group Standard for the Determination Method of All-Solid-State Batteries", and the world's first BMWi7 test model equipped with all-solid-state batteries from BMW Group has officially started road tests in Munich, etc. The combination of multiple pieces of information indicates that the industrialization progress of solid-state batteries is expected to accelerate.
Driven by both material innovation and manufacturing processes
Solid-state batteries have two major "obstacles" : materials and processes. The technical routes for oxides, sulfides, polymers and halides have reached a consensus among global research institutions and scientific researchers, and everyone is making unremitting efforts on different paths. To defeat the two major "obstacles", it is to find suitable materials for engineering.
Guoxuan High-Tech has made progress in solid-state batteries, mainly achieving breakthroughs in the field of sulfide electrolytes. The R&D team of Guoxuan High-Tech has increased the ionic conductivity of sulfide electrolytes by 60%, significantly enhancing air stability. At the same time, the specific capacity of positive and negative electrode materials has been greatly improved.
Guoxuan High-Tech's new generation of Jinshi all-solid-state batteries, with an energy density of 350Wh/kg, are not afraid of rigorous tests such as needle puncture, hot box, and overcharging, and their safety performance has been comprehensively enhanced. It is worth noting that Guoxuan High-Tech has simultaneously launched the G quasi-solid-state battery. Through a closed-cell solid-state electrolyte design, it achieves "no fire and no explosion" after being pierced by a 3mm steel needle, and can safely discharge with the needle, with an energy release efficiency of 96.8% compared to before.
Not long ago, at the annual conference of the China All-Solid-State Battery Industry-University-Research Collaborative Innovation Platform, many experts mentioned that all-solid-state batteries use dry process technology. At the manufacturing process level, the breakthrough of dry electrode process is particularly crucial.
Recently, the laboratory jointly established by Nakanor and the Sichuan New Energy Vehicle Innovation Center has launched eight-roll and ten-roll dry film-making equipment that supports multiple material systems. The 400-type dry film-making composite integrated machine of Manster can realize the pilot line solution for oxide/sulfide solid-state batteries. These equipment innovations not only enhance production efficiency but also push the value proportion of front-end equipment such as roller presses to a new height.
The leap from the laboratory to the mass production line
Recently, it has been frequently seen in news reports that a certain place or institution has achieved new results in solid-state battery research, and the released data is quite impressive. Journalists are very interested in these latest scientific research achievements and have interviewed many experts in the industry. They told reporters that these latest achievements are basically laboratory data, and there is still a long way to go for laboratory data to be applied in engineering.
However, recently, the sulfide solid electrolyte membrane project of Enjie Co., Ltd. has caught people's attention. This project is not laboratory data but a real engineering advancement, which has exemplary significance. Enjie Co., LTD. 's 1,000-ton capacity construction project is advancing in Yuxi, Yunnan Province. The pilot production line for lithium sulfide has reached a scale of over 100 tons. The thickness of the electrolyte membrane can be reduced to 30μm, and the ionic conductivity remains above 3ms/cm. Moreover, it has achieved continuous roll-to-roll production.
In addition to the project of Enjie Co., LTD., the new production lines for solid electrolyte materials and high-voltage lithium cobalt oxide cathode materials added in the second phase of Shandong Chuanglu Project will form an industrial scale with an annual output of 500 million yuan.
The sense of smell of capital is always the most acute. Since 2025, 180 A-share companies have laid out solid-state batteries, and the overall increase of the sector has exceeded 15%. Sunwoda has received research visits from 180 institutions. Xiamen Tungsten Industry has achieved ton-level production of solid electrolytes. Foton Motor has collaborated with Qingtao Energy to develop solid-state battery systems for commercial vehicles. The dynamic information of these enterprises has been made known to the public due to the research visits from the capital circle.
Phased breakthroughs and scene expansion
Although current information indicates that the industrialization of solid-state batteries is expected to accelerate, there are still many difficulties to overcome for solid-state batteries, and it cannot be achieved overnight. It is a consensus that breakthroughs should be made in stages.
Academician Ouyang Minggao of the Chinese Academy of Sciences once proposed a "three-stage" roadmap for solid-state batteries at a conference. From 2025 to 2027, graphite/low-silicon anode sulfide all-solid-state batteries will be developed, with an energy density target of 200-300Wh/kg. From 2030 to 2035, lithium anode sulfide all-solid-state batteries aim to achieve 500Wh/kg and 1000Wh/L respectively.
A reporter learned from a relevant source that in the low-altitude economy field, Guoxuan High-Tech's high-power battery can achieve 10-80% fast charging within 12 minutes, with an energy density of 3600W/kg, and has passed the eVTOL flight condition verification. In the field of humanoid robots, Guoxuan High-Tech has also ventured into solid-state batteries. The breakthroughs in these niche markets are reshaping the value boundaries of power batteries.
Despite the accelerated industrialization process, all-solid-state batteries still face challenges such as solid-solid interface contact and the cycle life of lithium metal anodes. TrendForce predicts that the price of battery cells will drop to 1 yuan per watt-hour after 2030 and is expected to fall to 0.6-0.7 yuan per watt-hour by 2035. This cost decline curve echoes BYD's judgment that "solid-liquid batteries have the same price", indicating that the cost gap between sulfide solid-state ternary batteries and liquid ternary batteries is narrowing.
From the experimental line of Guoxuan High-Tech to the intensive layout of global automakers, the industrialization of solid-state batteries has entered a spiral upward channel of "technology verification - large-scale production - scenario expansion". When the Jinshi all-solid-state battery completed road tests on the streets of Munich, these breakthroughs not only heralding a revolutionary leap in power battery technology but also writing a new chapter in the global energy transition. With continuous breakthroughs in material innovation, manufacturing processes, and industrial collaboration, solid-state batteries are moving from the laboratory to reality, injecting strong impetus into strategic industries such as new energy vehicles, low-altitude economy, and artificial intelligence.
