Recently, Huawei held a conference on the top ten trends of the 2024 charging network industry with the theme of "high-quality charging where there is a road". At the press conference, Wang Zhiwu, president of Huawei intelligent charging network, said that in the past three years, electric vehicles have continued to exceed expectations, and in the next 10 years, the ownership of the entire electric vehicle will increase by at least 10 times, and the amount of charging will increase by at least 8 times. The imperfect construction of charging network is still the first pain point of the entire electric vehicle industry, and the construction of high-quality charging network will accelerate the penetration of new energy vehicles and promote the prosperity of local industry and ecology.

In the context of the accelerated process of global transportation electrification and carbon neutrality, Huawei releases the top ten trends of the charging network industry in 2024 based on deep insight and thinking:


First, high-quality development. The four major paths to implement high-quality development of charging networks in the future include unified planning and design at the top, unified technical standards at the bottom, unified supervision by the government, and unified platforms for user operation.


Second, comprehensive superfilling. With the increasing maturity of the third-generation power semiconductors and high-rate power batteries represented by silicon carbide and gallium nitride, electric vehicles are accelerating to the direction of high-voltage supercharging. It is predicted that in 2028, high-voltage supercharged models will account for more than 60%.


Third, the ultimate experience. The popularization of new energy vehicles has accelerated, private owners have replaced operational owners as the main force, and charging demand has shifted from cost priority to experience priority.


Fourth, safe and credible. With the continuous penetration of new energy vehicles and the exponential explosion of industrial data, strong electric security and network security will become more important. A safe and trusted charging network should have four major characteristics: privacy does not leak, the owner does not get electrocuted, the vehicle does not catch fire, and the operation does not crash.


Fifth, vehicle network interaction. The "double randomness" of the power grid continues to strengthen, and the charging network will become an organic component of the new power system with new energy as the main body. With the maturity of business model and technology, vehicle network interaction will go through three important stages: from one-way order, gradually to one-way response, and finally to achieve two-way interaction.


Sixth, power pooling. The traditional integrated pile power is not shared, and it cannot solve the four uncertainties of charging, namely, MAP uncertainty, SOC uncertainty, model uncertainty and idle uncertainty, resulting in the utility utilization rate of charging less than 10%. Therefore, the charging infrastructure will gradually move from the monolithic pile architecture to power pooling to match the charging power needs of different SoCs of different models. Through intelligent scheduling, it can maximize the charging demand of the whole model, improve the utility rate, save the cost of station construction, and evolve with the car for a long time.


Seventh, full liquid cooling architecture. At present, the mainstream air-cooled or semi-liquid-cooled cooling mode charging facility module has high failure efficiency and short life span, which greatly increases the maintenance cost of terminal operators. The charging infrastructure using the full liquid cooling mode reduces the module annual failure rate to less than 5 ‰, and the life span is as long as 10 years, regardless of deployment scenarios, and lower operation and maintenance costs achieve wide coverage.


Eighth, slow charge DC. Parking and charging in the park is the core scene of vehicle network interaction. In this scene, vehicles have enough time to hang on the network, which is the basis for realizing vehicle network interaction. However, AC pile has two major defects, one is that it cannot realize the interaction of power grid and does not support V2G evolution; Second, it is impossible to work together with piles and lacks digital connectivity. The stop-charge integrated scenario will move to a low-power DC charging scheme on a large scale in the future, which can bring faster charging, higher utility utilization, and long-term evolution of high-level grid interaction compared with traditional AC piles.


Ninth, the park microgrid. The future development trend of the park is the integration of "optical storage, charging and charged vehicle cloud", through the unified and coordinated management of the cloud, to achieve efficient coordination of power grid, photovoltaic, energy storage, vehicles and living load, low-cost power generation and high-price charging, high economic efficiency and grid friendliness.


Tenth, comprehensive intelligence. At present, the digitization degree of the charging network is low, and the network, station, equipment and vehicle are not coordinated, forming a digital island; In the future, the network, the station, the equipment, and the vehicle are fully intelligent to realize the four-layer collaboration of "cloud station pile and vehicle", and efficiently enable the coordination of car and pile, power grid interaction, and full digital operation and maintenance.
